Tuesday: Group Presentation #1
Today I only had my Buddhism lecture, which was this morning from 10:30am-12:20pm since I didn't have my philosophy tutorial this afternoon. My group presentation was actually today, which was great to get out of the way (I wanted to present before reading week and in November before everything for all my classes are due).
The group presentation was on a section of a book that the professor assigned, but the reading was less than fifty pages long. I had five other people in my group, so each of us only had to read and analyze a short amount. The presentation had to be exactly twenty minutes or we would be penalized, which was stressful because there was six of us and there was a lot of important information in the reading, so we all felt like we had to rush through our slides in the Powerpoint. The tutor set a loud timer that would ring after twenty minutes and it went off exactly as we were finishing our last sentence.
I guess we did alright though, as after we finished presenting the professor told the whole class that our presentation was the best so far. He also loved our discussion question, as the group before us had forgotten to think of one.
I am not sure if it is unique to Hong Kong Univeristy (HKU) or Asian/Chinese schools in general, but the professors love to assign group projects/presentations. I have a group presentation in four out of my five classes, so I am relieved to get the shortest and easiest one out of the way first. Back at home in the past two years I have only had to work on a group project twice max. It may be because I am taking more advanced level classes now that I am a junior, or it could just be a variation in teaching style.
Half way through my school week, two more days to go!
P.S. Ryan left today with two other exchange friends to go to Japan for a week, and I am very jealous! Unfortunately I could not go because I would miss too many classes :(
P.P.S. I just realized that I have posted every day for seven days straight, which is the most in a row since being here. I don't think I will be posting tomorrow though (Wednesday).
