So today I had only one class from 10:30am-12:20pm which is philosophy, my least favorite course I am taking here. After class ended I took a solo trip to Tsim Sha Tsui (TST) to go to the Birkenstock store. Yes, I am guilty of purchasing a pair of Birks but hear me out - I have two solid reasons behind my purchase. The first being that my 'go to' pair of inexpensive sandals are starting to show some major signs of wear, as I purchased them from H&M shortly after I first arrived. Time for those to go! My second defense is that even though I was planning on asking for them for Christmas, they are about 1/3 USD cheaper here than back home in the U.S.! That alone was almost enough for me to make the splurge as Birkenstocks can be a little pricey. However, I know they are good quality and will last, and I will be able to wear flip flops my entire time here.
Later on today I met up with my assigned social science faculty buddy, Peter. Most of the exchange students here never developed a relationship with their buddies, or even met them but I was really excited to meet mine. Peter's actually in my psychology course, so I have stayed in contact with him. After he got out of class today we met in Sheung Wan to do some secret souvenir shopping and to get a bite to eat. I can't say where I went, or what I bought but I can say that I tried my first Portuguese egg tart. In my opinion it was weird in a good way, I still like the egg bubble waffles much better. These are very popular in Macau, as Macau was a Portuguese territory until 1999. Macau is known as the "Las Vegas of Asia" because of their many giant casinos. I still have to get there before the semester ends!
