Mr. Wong's on a Monday??
So tonight was a spontaneous Mr. Wong's trip with some friends. I debated all evening leading up to actually going because I dislike going to Mong Kok. Why do I dislike going there? Well, for starters, Mong Kok is SOOO busy and overcrowded with people, it's easy to feel claustrophobic. Also, it takes a while to get to Mong Kok as it takes two MTR lines with a subway change at Central. However, I wanted to go because I don't think I will be going again during the month of October, since I'll be traveling for over a week during reading week. Another reason for wanting to go is that I shouldn't be lazy as I'm only here for another two months, so I want to make the most of it. Mr. Wong's won out and I decided to go.
I've gotten feedback that maps are good because at times the Hong Kong landscape can be confusing. So to review I added a map below to help visually see Hong Kong. The blue dot is my location in Kennedy Town, where I live in Chi Sun College, Jockey Club III. The red pin is Mr. Wong's location in Mong Kok; as you can see I have to travel from Hong Kong island to the part of Hong Kong that is attached to Mainland China.
Hong Kong is a "special administrative region of the People's Republic of China" and an autonomous territory formerly ruled by the British. There are three main "areas" of Hong Kong. The Hong Kong island (where I live), Kowloon peninsula (bordering mainland China) and the New Territories (other islands that are part of Hong Kong). The New Territories have been less explored by myself, but I have been to Lantau Island (the biggest island in the New Territories) when I visited the monastery last month. Hopefully I will have the opportunity to check some of the other islands out while I'm here.
The climate of Hong Kong is humid and subtropical, with occasional typhoons during the summer months. Even in early October it is still hot and very humid, but a little less so since when I arrived in August. I enjoy the warm weather more than cold winter weather, but I would still like the humidity to drop and for the weather to be in the 70's F. Maybe by the time November begins my wish will come true, we'll see!
